College football on the TV. Changing colors in the leafy canopy overhead. The distinct call of the bobwhite quail. These are just a few of the attributes that define fall in Georgia. For decades, Georgia has been dubbed the “quail capital of the world,” and for good reason. The state even declared the bobwhite quail as the official state game bird in 1970, reflecting the fascination avid hunters have with this bird and their desire to chase it for sport.
With summer winding down and cooler temperatures on the way, quail instinctively begin preparing for the approaching season by banding together and forming coveys. Quail are social creatures by nature, and they recognize they need each other throughout the winter. They will forage together and set sentries to look for predators. They establish these groups typically from October through November, making it a great time to hunt.
Pointers, flushers, and retrievers all make the pursuit more fun. These loyal and well-trained canines can sense the changing of seasons in October. Their adrenaline is flowing, and their noses are attuned to the task at hand – finding birds for their hunting companions. With quail forming coveys, and dogs being ready, the big question arises: is there a better time to come to southwest Georgia to hunt quail than during the early part of the quail season? For those who know their sport, the advantages of the early season awakens their outdoor spirit.
Visiting Riverview before Thanksgiving brings with it several enticing factors:
- The weather is cooling and dry, both of which favor dogs finding birds and hunter success.
- The birds are active and fly well.
- The earlier you book your hunt, the better chance you have of securing desirable dates before the busy hunting season that occurs after Thanksgiving.
Best of all, we’re offering a special incentive to help you take advantage of the early part of the season: Groups who book between October 27 – November 9 or November 17 – 19 will receive one night free lodging/accommodations per trip… that’s $350 off per hunter!
