Finally Mr. Frost!!

We finally got our first killing frost of the season yesterday! We usually get our first good frost the week before Thanksgiving, but with the screwed-up weather patterns for 2020, I am not surprised. However, I hope that Al Gore does not hold his breath until I capitulate to his global warming theories.

Any hunter and bird dog man knows how much a good frost helps scenting conditions, but what a lot of folks don’t know is what the worst dog handling day of the season is. Normally, about four days after the first killing frost, all of the grass that was killed sours and stinks. On that day a bird dog can’t smell his own butt, much less a quail. We are fortunate that this day will occur on a Sunday, and we have never hunted on Sundays at Riverview. After Sunday, the dogs will not have to compete with anything for the scent of a quail.

This has been a challenging hunting season thanks to the Coronavirus. I have heard it said that miracles grow out of difficulties. If that is the case, we should be in line for a ton of miracles. Our team has certainly risen to the occasion. We have left no stone unturned to insure a Covid free environment for our guests. The problem for us has been getting the guests here so that we can look after them. I know that we are not alone as everyone in the travel and entertainment industries is facing the same dilemma.

Meanwhile, the bozos in Washington continue to fiddle while Rome burns. I believe that common sense is like deodorant. The people who need it the most never use it. I am an equal opportunity hater on both sides of the aisle in Congress. Each side is only interested in beating the other side. They seem to have forgotten “We The People” while they wage their stupid turf battles. A vaccine for this virus can’t come soon enough for me. I will be standing in line to get my shot when my class of recipients is called.

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. Now all that I have to do is work off the extra 5 pounds that I put on while eating everything except the plate during the holiday period. I am thankful for a lot of things. One of the things that I am most grateful for is the friendships and loyalty of our guests. Y’all stay safe and keep your profiles low until we can all get vaccinated for this terrible pandemic!
